Kazakhstan Petroleum Association is an organization, uniting more than 50 Kazakhstani and foreign companies from 20 countries, which are involved in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons as well as in the service sector of the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan. The organization was initially started out as an informal monthly meeting of interested oil and gas companies working in Kazakhstan, and then this forum was officially registered in the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce on 9 December 1997. However, the official birthday of the Association is 6 February 1998, when the KPA opened its representative office in Almaty.
The main objectives and tasks of KPA:
- To facilitate exploration and production activity in the petroleum industry in Kazakhstan;
- To share non-proprietary information between member companies and the Government with a view to advancing investment and the operating climate for the industry in Kazakhstan;
- To monitor legislative developments affecting oil and gas industry, and coordinate industry efforts to comment on draft laws;
- To communicate industry viewpoints on the issues important for KPA
